Lees Summit North High School

I help run a 501c3 non-profit Lacrosse organization that provides opportunities for kids in grades K through 12, in the Jackson County area and beyond, to learn and play the game of Lacrosse. Our youth boys and girls programs and our high school boys team is comprised of students primarily from the LSR7 district, but also includes kids from Blue Springs, Truman, Ft. Osage, and other school districts throughout the Jackson County area. Lees Summit North High School, and the LSR7 school district have been fantastic partners for our organization. They provide us with discounted fields and services that enable us to keep the cost of participation for our sport extremely low. Anything we can do to help them continue to provide support for this program directly helps the student athletes in our district and beyond. The reason that support is so important for our local students can be seen in a study that the NCAA typically conducts each year that outlines the participation levels of various sports in high school and post secondary education. The study shows how many high school and NCAA athletes compete in each sport along with an estimate of the percentage of high school athletes going on to compete in the NCAA. Currently the rate of lacrosse players (12.4% boys / 12.6% girls) moving on from high school to compete in the NCAA is double to even triple that of other sports (Basketball – 3.4% boys / 3.8% girls, Soccer – 5.5% boys, 7.1% girls, etc.). That means more lacrosse players are able to participate in collegiate athletics, often receiving scholarship money or using the sport to get into their school of choice. It makes sense for the local community to commit volunteer hours and donations to help support this effort as it results in additional opportunities for our student athletes. Please give me a call if you would like to discuss further.
